Endowed Professor of Communication/Executive Director, Pedas Communication Center, Tenure Track, Rank Open Thiel College is searching for the inaugural holder of the James Pedas Endowed Chair in Communication. Position begins in fall 2013. The Pedas Communication Center is a $6.5 million, 20,000 square feet, state-of-the-art communication facility housing the Department of Communication, radio and television broadcasting facilities, and an open, interactive, technology-rich creative space for students and faculty from all disciplines. Groundbreaking is anticipated in May 2013. The successful candidate will lead Thiel in refining and implementing a College-wide vision for the Pedas Communication Center. This vision includes as a key component mastery of “presentational literacy” for all students, consistent with advancing technologies and employment expectations for versatility and persuasiveness in the presentation of ideas and of the self. As Executive Director of the Pedas Center, the Pedas Professor will collaborate with faculty across the disciplines to establish the contours of presentational literacy and to implement innovative programming to add value and currency to the experience of all Thiel students. In addition, he or she will work closely with colleagues in the Department of Communication to enhance the profile of an already strong department currently enrolling more than seventy majors in Communication Studies and Media Communication. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D.in Communication, or related field, and a combination of teaching experience with professional experience within the communication/media field. Individuals with scholarly and teaching expertise in the areas of social media, mass media, and communication theory are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching and advising/mentoring responsibilities are vitally important at Thiel. Appropriate released time in connection with administrative responsibilities will be provided. The position reports directly to and will work closely with the VP for Academic affairs.
