Registrar
Thiel College is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as Registrar of the College. This position will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and will serve as the primary administrator with responsibility for the management of student records, registration processes, and institutional research. The successful candidate will direct a student-centered Records office, focusing on convenient services for our students while insuring the quality of the data and systems within the Records office and the College.
Thiel College’s new president is driving significant change at this 144 year-old institution. New academic programs, athletic programs, facilities and services are all taking shape under his Imagining Thiel initiative. An Innovation Fund was established this Fall, and it grows daily with the support of alumni and friends recognizing the vision of President VanAken and the College community in these initiatives. Thiel is associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and offers over 60 academic programs in liberal arts and professional studies to students from Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and 28 other states and foreign countries. The College has a strong athletic heritage, and will increase its athletic program count to 24 varsity men’s and women’s sports in Fall 2010.
Responsibilities of the Registrar:
- Oversee daily operations as well as the hiring, training and development of the Records office staff members;
- Coordinate all online and in-person registration activities for new and returning students;
- Provide functional management of the Records module within Sungard PowerCampus to ensure the integrity and accuracy of student records;
- Certify students for graduation, oversee the production of diplomas, prepare reports and materials to enable production of the Graduation program;
- Implement articulation agreements between the College and other institutions;
- Support student enrollment efforts through the development of effective registration processes and transcript evaluation for transfer students;
- Direct the training of faculty and students in the use of web-based tools for online registration, degree planning and audit, and grade submission;
- Assist in the education of College community members to help assure FERPA compliance;
- Coordinate academic calendar preparation in conjunction with the Calendar committee;
- Prepare, edit and maintain the accuracy of the College Catalog;
- Coordinate course section and classroom scheduling, and the production of semester schedules of course offerings for registration;
- Maintain curriculum files to support degree audit processes;
- Promote degree planning and audit as a retention tool through training and education of the students and faculty;
- Supervise grade collection and reporting, and generate dean’s lists and other periodic reports;
- Direct transcript preparation and delivery;
- Serve as the Principal Designated School Official in SEVIS and oversee international student records management with DHS;
- Prepare official reports to support strategic goals and college operations including, e.g. retention studies, enrollment reports, curricular and workload projections, classroom utilization reports, and academic status, eligibility and progress reports;
- Represent the College at regional and national conferences and participate in professional development opportunities;
- Serve on various College academic and administrative committees and serve in other capacities as needed or directed by the College.
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:
- A significant combination of education and experience within a college records environment. Candidates with Sungard PowerCampus experience and SQL reporting skills are preferred;
- A record of growth in professional responsibility that demonstrates innovation and leadership;
- Significant experience in the adoption and use of technologies to increase client satisfaction, productivity, and accountability within the Records office;
- Outstanding communication skills and technical proficiency with productivity software;
- A clear understanding of trends, policies and regulations related to the academic records environment;
- Willingness and a desire to serve in a student-centered environment.
