TITLE III ACTIVITY DIRECTOR: DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER FOR LEARNING AND ADVISING
APRIL 13 Qualifications: Doctorate, experience in a small, liberal arts college, a record of success in higher education administration, and expertise in curricular development, grant-writing or faculty development. The candidate must have a proven track record of successfully managing a significant budget and professional personnel. A working knowledge of information and educational technologies is also important.
Reports To: Vice President for Academic Affairs
Description of the Center for Learning and Advising (CLA): The CLA is funded by a Title III grant to serve the students, faculty and staff of Thiel College in four ways:
- Assisting students in vocational discernment. CLA staff in collaboration with faculty advisors works with students to identify talents and interests, to develop co-curricular opportunities to explore career options, and to generate resumes and portfolios in preparation for post-graduate alternatives.
- Assisting faculty in exploring a wide variety of delivery strategies and honing their pedagogies to remain effective in an increasingly technological and experiential milieu.
- Assisting faculty in exploring a variety of advising strategies including descriptive advising.
- Working with various groups within and outside the College to extend the learning environment beyond the classroom.
Responsibilities: Supervise operation of the CLA as described in Title III Grant. The Director will:
- Direct the CLA, including budget management, personnel management, planning, assessment of the CLA, and reporting.
- Conduct effective strategic planning;
- Manage and monitor CLA progress/budget.
- Prepare formative and summative reports, proposals and recommendations for overall program, keeping detailed records of assigned activities and basing program assessment and recommendations on that data;
- Oversee development, implementation and institutionalization of effective CLA programs;
- Provide positive CLA staff supervision, support, professional development, and evaluation;
- Work collaboratively with individuals, departments and offices across the College;
- Promote curricular innovation, collaborative/interactive learning, and advising/discernment;
- Ensure all CLA strategies and activities are completed effectively and efficiently.
- Foster personal/professional interactions and facilitate effective CLA communication/outreach.
