Education
Ph.D., University of Notre Dame, 1994
M.A., University of Notre Dame, 1992
B.A., DePaul University, 1985
Areas of Specialization:
In terms of my formal education, my areas of specialization are 1) Marriage & Family and 2) Sex & Gender. However, one of the great things about being part of the Thiel Sociology Department has been the opportunity to prepare and teach classes beyond the confines of my academic specialization. It seems the benefits from a liberal arts based education apply to faculty members too!
Courses Taught:
Microsociology, Anthropology, Minorities, The American Women's Experience, Research Methods, Professional Seminar, Medical Sociology, Aging, Family Sociology, Sex & Gender, Gender & Film
Personal Interests:
As you might guess from a look at my office, I love to read. What you might not guess is that I also read extensively for pleasure. My bookcases at home are full of everything you can imagine: biographies, history, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, Dean Koontz, Elizabeth George, Clive Cussler... and the list goes on!
What space is not full of books is likely to be inhabited by one of my cats. I currently am owned by three cats and they pretty much rule the house with a velvet paw! Luckily my husband is similarly ruled and that means there are ample hands and laps to accommodate the kitties and provide hugs and snuggles.
My husband is Professor John K. Wise, Director of the Integrative Core Curricula, Co-Director of the First Year Experience, and lecturer in the Religion Department.
