Physics plays a very important part in the preparation for a career in the natural and engineering sciences. Physicists work as teachers, in research both in private companies and for the government, along with engineers in manufacturing and industrial production. They were instrumental in the development of semiconductors, lasers, alternative (green) energies, novel materials, nanotechnology etc.

A background in physics and its sister sciences is important for many other careers beyond the natural and engineering sciences. For example, sales, patent law, law enforcement, accounting, investment banking, etc. are not generally associated with physics, yet physicists work in all of these areas because of their mathematical and analytical skills. The Physics department offers the following degrees:

  B.S. degree in Applied Physics
  B.A. degree in Physics Secondary Education (in conjunction with the education department)
  Physics Minor for students majoring in related disciplines such as Math, Chemistry, and Biology

The curriculum in physics has been drawn up with the following objectives: to provide students with a   variety of courses upon which to build a sound foundation for future studies; to contribute to students' comprehension of related disciplines; and to help prepare students for employment and/or graduate school.
An introductory Astronomy course is offered as well.
