Jay Ward

Professor of English and Department Chair

Dr. Ward earned his B.A. degree in English with secondary teacher certification from Butler University, his M.A. in English from Indiana Central University, and his Ph.D. in English with a specialization in British Romanticism from Ball State University. He has been a member of the Department of English faculty since 1978 and teaches Shakespeare, Literary Criticism, Persuasive Writing, and special topics seminars in Romanticism, as well as History of Western Humanities; he has served as Western Humanities Coordinator and Honors Program Director, has served two terms as Chair of the Faculty, and has been selected twice as Thiel's Professor of the Year and once as Faculty Scholar of the Year. His research and scholarly interests include Romanticism with an emphasis on Byron, Shakespeare, intellectual and cultural history, interdisciplinary studies, and pedagogy.
