Interests and Experience
-
Chromatography. The development of stationary phases synthesized by the deposition of silica on carbon materials and subsequent characterization by thermogravimetric, chromatographic, and adsorption studies. Thermogravimetry is used to determine the amount of deposition and the adsorption/desorption properties of the stationary phase. Adsorption properties of the carbonaceous materials are determined by gas chromatograms of various probe molecules. Frontal chromatography is employed to determine deposition. Energies of adsorption are calculated from chromatographic data.
-
Mass spectrometry. The study of organometallics for the interpretation of the mass spectra of the ligand and the complex formed to verify synthesis and structure. The family of copper, palladium, and platinum is of special interest.
-
Science and Mathematics Education. The development of a placement exam for chemistry. Another development would be the creation of interactive classroom sheets to enhance learning of scientific or mathematical concepts.
