Interests and Experience
Can harmful impacts on the environment be mitigated? In the broadest sense, I have long been interested in the complex processes that make up the environment and our impacts on those processes. I have focused on understanding the fate and transport of chemicals in the environment in a variety of aspects including low temperature geochemistry, environmental tobacco smoke, ambient mercury levels, NOx catalysts for diesel engines, and remediation strategies for abandoned mine drainage. While I still enjoy picking a problem apart into its fundamental components, I have recently become interested in practical, workable approaches to environmental problems.
Personal Info
There is a Rufino Tamayo poster, Schrödinger's cat, and lots of papers stacked in what appears to be random piles in my office. I drink tea of all kinds and am very particular about the proper use of safety glasses. After promising myself that once was enough, I am again refinishing wood floors in an old house. I love wooden boats and plan to build one someday.
