At Thiel College, our chemistry department prepares students to successfully tackle daunting challenges, think critically, and move into a career in their chosen field after earning their bachelor’s degree.   Chemistry majors will have hands-on experience utilizing modern instrumentation to explore fundamental concepts in the laboratory while gaining experience that will help them in their future jobs. What’s more, majors will explore various career paths as they investigate how chemistry is applied in cutting-edge research and in healthcare.

Chemistry Courses

Our classes explore the five major disciplines of chemistry: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry and give students the opportunity to gain experience in the lab as early as their freshman year. Our small class sizes ensure that students receive personalized attention from faculty. Our program allows students to work individually with professors, gain experience as lab assistants and engage in unique research opportunities.

Internships and Study Abroad

Thiel chemistry students can take advantage of internship and job opportunities with local companies and industries. Study abroad options are available as well. In the past, Thiel students in the chemistry program have studied abroad in places such as Australia and South Korea!

Scholarships, Awards, and Organizations

The Department of Chemistry recognizes excellent students with over a dozen scholarships and awards each year! These are granted for outstanding performance in chemistry courses at all levels of the undergraduate program.

Thiel College has hosted an active chapter of the American Chemical Society Student Affiliates (ACS-SA) for more than 50 years earning over 30 awards from the ACS. The chapter provides excellent opportunities for students to meet new people and participate in a great student group outside of the classroom.
