Richard Huether '74, speaker

CEO, Independent Can Company

"Mr. Rich Huether is a very successful man working for a family owned business which has made its own niche, Independent Can Company. Mr. Huether graduated from Thiel College in 1974 with a major in business administration. Upon graduation, he went on to further his education at Bowling Green State University where he got his MBA. In 1975, he began working at ICC as a sales representative. He worked as a sales rep for approximately 13 years until he was offered the vice president of sales and marketing. This is where Rich thought he belonged."
- Dave Gladowski, junior business administration major

"Independent Can Company is based in Maryland, but is in the international market. Some of their main customers include Crayola Crayons, Hershey and AOL. Mr. Huether told us how important it is to always have new products and to be innovative."
- Rachele Antoniazzi, senior MIS major

"The company has undergone a major growth over the period of time from 1988 to 1997. The sales force grew from 3 to 12, employment grew from 100 to 218 and sales doubled. Mr. Huether has been president and CEO since 1997."
- Anatoli Pilchtchikov, senior accounting and business administration major

"The workers themselves are like family, not including those who are actually in the family since it is a family business. Rick knows just about every employee by name and face. He knows that it is not what he is doing that makes the company grow so much, but what the employees do that make the company expand."
- Hollie Theriault, senior business administration major

"I had a chance to talk with Mr. Huether's friend and co-worker, Paige. I discussed with him what his position was and how long he had been employed at Independent Can Company. It so happened that Paige was once a competitor of Mr. Huether."
- Nicole Willrich, senior business administration major
