Jamestown Paint Company in Jamestown, PA
Thiel College Operations Management students traveled just up the road to visit a globally reaching company located in small town America. Thanks to all personnel at Jamestown Paint Company who made this tour possible. It was encouraging to observe a company whose success is achieved by consistently finding ways to meet their customers' needs through flexibility, ingenuity and personal attention.
Students listened as Bradley W. Hamm, Vice President of Operations, explained the tracking system used to follow products from time of ordering to completion. 4,000 coating formulations are currently active for clients within a 500 mile radius to worldwide.
Mr. Hamm highlighted some of the coatings required in the plastics industry and the UV curing processes used. Students were impressed with Jamestown Paint Company's ability to produce exactly the product a client desires .
Thanks to Mr. Walton, Mr. Hamm and Professor Giannini for enlightening us about an industry in which we thought we knew something. We learned that what we knew wasn't much and that in the world of coatings there are many types from waterborne to powder, there are many markets from pudding packs to radiators, and there are many wide ranging opportunities if a company is flexible enough to meet a customers needs.
