Office of Special Events

Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Special Events is to facilitate internal and external events held on Thiel’s campus from inception to completion in a professional and reliable manner. Students, faculty, staff and outside parties interact with the Special Events staff to plan for facilities, use of equipment and various services to enhance presentations, lectures, social gatherings and community functions. The Office of Special Events strives to provide a smooth and seamless experience for all constituents.

Overview

Reservation forms must be submitted and approved by the Office of Special Events. In addition to food service costs, event sponsors will be charged for rental linens (tablecloths and napkins), floral arrangements, technical fees and musician fees when applicable.

The Howard Miller Student Center – 15 Zimmerman Way

The Lutheran Heritage Room is located on the main level. This room is used for student functions and doubles as a banquet/meeting center; dining, receptions, and symposia location.

Also located on the main level, these rooms are used for faculty meetings, round table discussions, dinners, receptions and general meetings.

Rotunda Bistro

The heart of the Howard Miller Student Center, the Bistro is an open and spacious snackbar area. Many Thiel students, faculty, staff and visitors stop by every day for a quick meal, snack or gourmet coffee drink, featuring Starbucks® brand coffee. Newly renovated in 2011, the Bistro can be configured in a number of ways for a variety of events. Receptions, small dinners, casual meetings and many other types of events can be accommodated in this area.



Passavant Auditorium - 38 Packard Avenue (1,750)

Located on the upper campus, Passavant is used for large assemblies, convocations, commencements and concerts.

William A. Robinson Theater (200)

Located behind Passavant Auditorium, this faculty is used for theater productions and meetings.


David Johnson Memorial Chapel - 94 College Avenue (chapel - 240, conference room - 10)

Located on the corner of College Avenue and Ridgweway Street, this facility is used for church services, choral concerts, and meetings. The chapel also has a small conference room.




Glen Johnson Community Center - 35 Roy Johnson Drive

Located on lower campus, this facility is used for employee training sessions, board meetings, general meetings, receptions, and dances. It has several rooms.

All of the above spaces are presentation-ready with dual projection screens for bigger meetings. It is equipped with an installed desktop computer that has a wired Internet connection. Instead of a monitor, this room has a SMART Podium© with interactive stylus (see Information Technology for details). A DVD player and VCR are also available. This system utilizes Extron control system.

JCC 105 (39) - This room has Polycom web conferencing software and equipment. A desktop computer with a wired internet connection, DVD player and VCR are also available.
